Butterfly project

The Old House
By: Franta Bass

Deserted here,the old house
stands in silence, asleep.
The old house used to be sonice,
before standing there,
it was so nice.
Now it is deserted,
rotting in silence -
 What a waste of houses,
a wasted of hours.

I feel sad  because  imagine how was the house  all beautiful house with a lot of plants but when they came back from the camps they find the house all destroyed

  1. Your butterfly is so nice, and when I read your poem I feel so sad to because like how did you say, the people want to the camp and there house was so nice and the flower and everything about that things and when they camed back the found the house a disaster and it wasn't like and that was so sad for the people.

  2. This is sad and how it said that the houses were just a waste. Its sad how the poem when you read it, you can feel the pain and loneliness. I liked the drawing and I liked how hou drew the same house but one destroyed and the other one so nice. How old was the house by itself?

  3. Your butterfly has very well drawn pictures. When I read your poem it made me feel very empty. The poem sounds as if one is describing themself, but as a house. In the poem it said 'the old house used to be so nice, before standing there, it was so nice.' Is like they're describing what was before, nice before everything that happened to the Jews. Why do you think they used the description as a house when they might be talking about themselves anyways.

  4. Your butterfly is my favorite! It's so pretty and nicely drawn. The house on the right looks old and broken down, and the house on the left is nice and new. I understand why you did that, because the poem says "It was so nice. Now it is deserted." How do you think they felt when they saw their house like this, if they survived? I can sense some fear and worry,, like you said so. I think the family would have been miserable, to see the house that they grew up in is destroyed.

  5. You did a good job on showing the difference between the old house and the new house. Do you think the child died? In the poem it says "what a waste of houses" so I'm confused on was this before the camp or after? On your thinglink you said the figurative language was metaphor but I wish the author would talk more about the new house.

I Like your butterfly I liked the way you colored but specially all the details you colored and it makes it look really pretty and also the poem it very sad and it says like back then there was more a better life than now because in the poem it's said "it was so nice now it is deserted" ?Why did you put two house in your butterfly if you said it was only one house?

  8. I like your butterfly! I really liked how you drew houses on both sides and giving it details. Also I liked how you colored a lighter color for the second house because as you said in one of the annotations "The movie shows the house was standing in silence asleep because no one was there to take care like the poem it just says it stays quiet." Which gives a feeling that you have to draw a lighter color. I have a question, why did you color the outside black? I think you colored it black because the poem is in a bad situation and in the poem it says "The old house stands in silence, asleep."

  9. This is sad because all those houses that were just left there to rot. Why don't they reuse the houses? If I wrote this I would have thought about the people and there homes that they had left behind. It's a shame they lost everything over them being a Jew.

  10. Wow Arlen! Your drawing and coloring skills are amazing. You really have talent! I really enjoyed how you put a bright joyful picture on one side and then put a old dull looking house on the other. Great way to represent the poem into your butterfly. Also, on your left wing drawing you have happy people and plants, meanwhile on the right wing you have no people and dried up plants. Was there a reason you did this like you did? Would you think that you did this for showing what life was when people roamed vs when people were taken away? Great job !

  13. Your butterfly is very beautiful. There are a variety amount of colors and that's what makes your butterfly so beautiful. Why do you think that the house was so beautiful before they were taken to the camp and when they arrived back home it was destroyed and sad looking? In my opinion I think that before he/she was taken away to the camp they took very good care of there home. And when they went to the camp and were released from the camp and able to go home I think that the Nazi already had gotten to that neighborhood so they destroyed every house that was there. After reading this poem it just made feel sad and uncomfortable because lots of people that were in that area lost there home and I'm sure they did a lot to make there house beautiful.

  14. Nice butterfly, all the colorrs are great. In what movie shows the house?? I like how you drew half of the colors one side bright and the other one darker.I like how you drew the house, because the poem says the old house used to be so nice, you gave everything So detail, and was good.

  15. Your drawings are so great! I feel like this poem talks about the waste of houses and belogings. They are being taken away from their homes and their lives. It presents a sense of maturity.
